When asked about the conflict between producers and music companies over remixes and recreations, Kumar Taurani explained that the idea that producers should get some money from these recreations doesn't make sense.
He gave an example, saying, "Suppose I buy an M F Husain painting for Rs.1 crore.Tomorrow, I can sell it for Rs.2 crores or even rent it out.Why should I object if someone uses it?"
He also spoke about Vashu Bhagnani, saying, "He gave a lot of interviews while we stayed quiet.
Firstly, these contracts were signed 20-25 years ago, and he never raised any issues before.Secondly, all our contracts clearly stated that in any legal dispute, Mumbai would be the place to go.Yet, he filed the case in Bihar, far from Patna. Why did he need to go there? Thanks to God's grace, we got relief from the High Court and Supreme Court. Now, everyone is telling him to fight the case in Mumbai if he has any problem."
Kumar added, "We had a long friendship with Vashu.
We brought him into the industry, and we made our first films together.Later, when he wanted to make films on his own, we supported him.We said, 'Go ahead, make your way.' "
When asked if they are still on good terms with Vashu Bhagnani after all this, Kumar replied, "No.
Abhi thodi doori hai. What can we do?If he had a problem, he could have spoken to us directly."
Kumar also revealed that Vashu Bhagnani had accepted Tips as the rights holder of some songs just a few years ago, but changed his mind during the Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai issue.
He said, "He made a film called Coolie No 1 (2020), which was released directly on Amazon Prime Video. It had two songs from the original film of the same name.We were among the producers of the original film and held the music rights. He asked us to use the songs and we agreed."
