After Sitaare Zameen Par (2025), Aamir Khan is ready to begin work on his upcoming movie, Lalkara.The film is about the life of Lala Amarnath and takes place during the 1947 Partition of India and Pakistan.It brings Aamir back together with Ashutosh Gowariker, with whom he previously collaborated on Lagaan (2001), another cricket-themed period drama.
Interestingly, a few years ago, another big Bollywood star, Shah Rukh Khan, was also considering a film on Lala Amarnath.
At that time, the project was supposed to be directed by Rajkumar Hirani, a well-known filmmaker.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “This was after the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero and Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju, starring Ranbir Kapoor, both released in 2018.
This is when Rajkumar Hirani proposed the idea of a film on Lala Amarnath to Shah Rukh Khan.”
The source added, “However, due to certain reasons, the film didn’t happen.
Meanwhile, the pandemic may have also affected things.During this time, Rajkumar Hirani suggested making Dunki.Shah Rukh Khan liked the idea and joined the project.The film was finally released on Christmas 2023.”
Meanwhile, in 2023, there were reports that after Dunki, Rajkumar Hirani wanted to make the Lala Amarnath film with Shah Rukh Khan again.
Now, returning to Lalkara, Bollywood Hungama has learned that the film will have a Rajkumar Hirani connection.The filmmaker will be credited as the writer, along with Abhijat Joshi.The sports film will be produced by Excel Entertainment, run by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
