Homebound gets release date: Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor starrer to arrive in theatres on September 26, 2025

After gaining attention on the global festival scene, Neeraj Ghaywan's highly awaited drama film Homebound is now ready for its cinema release. On September 13, 2025, producer Karan Johar shared on social media that the movie will open in theaters worldwide on September 26, 2025. Johar posted, "No feeling is final. #Homebound is releasing in cinemas on 26th September, worldwide." The movie will also be available on Netflix later.

Homebound had its first showing in May 2025 at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was featured in the respected Un Certain Regard section.
The film then went on to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it received a warm standing ovation during its North American premiere earlier this month.

The movie is directed and written by Neeraj Ghaywan, and is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra under Dharma Productions.
It is based on a 2020 New York Times article by Basharat Peer. Homebound features Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa. The story follows two childhood friends dealing with the challenges of life as they work towards taking the national police exam.

Adding more prestige to the project, Hollywood icon Martin Scorsese joined as an executive producer earlier this year.
In April, Johar shared that Scorsese was involved by posting the filmmaker's handwritten note expressing appreciation for Ghaywan's vision. Scorsese wrote, "I watched Neeraj's first film Masaan in 2015 and loved it… Neeraj has made a beautifully made film that's a valuable addition to Indian Cinema."

Ghaywan thanked Scorsese for guiding him during the film's creation, including the screenplay and editing process.
He shared, "It is an honour beyond words… Mr. Scorsese mentored us through the screenplay and multiple rounds of editing. He listened carefully, understood the cultural context, and gave thoughtful, incisive notes each time."
