War 2 Movie Review Synopsis:
WAR 2 is about the clash between two warriors.
Kabir (Hrithik Roshan) is now a mercenary who kills for money. He gets involved with a secret group called 'Kali' and is told to kill Colonel Luthra (Ashutosh Rana). Luthra's daughter Kavya (Kiara Advani) is heartbroken and vows revenge. Vikrant Kaul (Anil Kapoor) takes Luthra's place and asks Vikram (Jr NTR) to help. Vikram is a tough spy from RAW and is determined to kill Kabir. The rest of the story follows what happens next.
War 2 Movie Story Review:
Aditya Chopra's idea sounded good on paper.
But Shridhar Raghavan's script is full of clichés and not very exciting. Abbas Tyrewala's dialogues are just okay.
Ayan Mukerji's direction doesn't reach the level of previous films.
That said, he does a good job with the action and the scale of the scenes. The first half keeps the audience engaged. The chase sequence in Salamanca, Spain is thrilling. There's also a surprise twist during the break.
However, things take a nosedive in the second half.
The childhood flashback is interesting but is dragged on too long. That’s one of the main problems — everything feels like it's going on forever. The concept of 'Kali' is too complicated for the general audience. The yacht scene becomes silly. The romance also fails to connect.
War 2 Movie Review Performances:
Hrithik Roshan delivers a strong performance that goes beyond the script.
Jr NTR has less screen time but makes up for it with his acting and star power. Kiara Advani looks fantastic and gives a heartfelt performance. She shines in the action scenes. Anil Kapoor is okay but his role is underwritten. Ashutosh Rana, K C Shankar (Gautam Gulati), and Varun Badola (Vilas Sarang) do good supporting work. Bobby Deol appears in a small role and is fine.
War 2 movie music and other technical aspects:
Pritam Chakraborty's music is just average.
The song 'Janaab-e-Aali' works because of the visuals, but 'Aavan Jaavan' doesn't stand out. The background score by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara is exciting.
Benjamin Jasper's cinematography is excellent.
The action sequences by Spiro Razatos, Franz Spilhaus, Anl Arasu, Oh Sea Young, Craig Macrae, and Sunil Rodrigues are entertaining. The production design by Rajat Poddar and Amrita Mahal Nakai is top quality, and the costumes by Anaita Shroff Adajania and Niharika Jolly are glamorous. The VFX from yFX is decent but feels unrealistic in some parts. Aarif Sheikh's editing is slow and drags the film down. The movie could have been 15 to 20 minutes shorter.
War 2 Movie Review Conclusion:
Overall, WAR 2 is the weakest film in the YRF Spy Universe.
While it might benefit from the long weekend, it may struggle to keep the audience interested after that.
