Mahesh Manjrekar approaches Sanjay Dutt to play the lead in Hindi remake of Juna Furniture

Mahesh Manjrekar and Sanjay Dutt once formed a popular director-actor pair. They first worked together on the movie *Vaastav* in 1999. The film became a cult favorite and is seen as one of the best performances by Sanjay Dutt. Later, Mahesh Manjrekar directed Sanjay Dutt in several films like *Kurukshetra* (2000), *Hathyar* (2002), *Pitaah* (2002), *Rakht* (2004), *Viruddh* (2005), and *Vaah Life Ho Toh Aisi* (2005).

There are plans for them to work together again, after almost 20 years, for a Hindi remake of the 2024 Marathi film *Juna Furniture*.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, "Mahesh Manjrekar directed *Juna Furniture* and played the main lead.
The film received a lot of praise for its message, story, and acting. Mahesh believes it could connect with Hindi-speaking audiences, so he has started working on the Hindi remake script."

The same source added, "He has approached Sanjay Dutt because he thinks the actor would do a great job.
Mahesh and Sanjay have a strong bond and have enjoyed working together in the past. It's been a while since they worked on a project together, which is why Mahesh wanted Sanjay to be part of the remake. However, Sanjay has not yet confirmed if he will take the role."

*Juna Furniture* is about an elderly man and his son who is an IAS officer.
The father often needs money and has to ask his son for it. One day, when he needs money again, his son is not around. The father becomes very upset and decides to file a case against his son. The film also features Bhushan Pradhan, Anusha Dandekar, Sameer Dharmadhikari, Sachin Khedekar, Shivaji Satam, Upendra Limaye, and Mahesh's wife Medha Manjrekar.

Earlier this year, there were rumors that Mahesh Manjrekar and Sanjay Dutt might also team up for a sequel to *Vaastav*.
