70th National Film Awards: Kantara, KGF Chapter 2, Ponniyin Selvan 1 win big

The 70th National Film Awards' winners were announced on August 16 by the National Media Centre in New Delhi. Numerous notable individuals emerged victorious. Kannada films like Kantara, KGF Chapter 2, Tamil film Ponniyin Selvan 1, and Malayalam film Aattam were among the few that shined at the award ceremony among the plethora of South films that have entertained us over the past few years.

Kantara won two awards, including Best Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Actor in a Leading Role, which Rishab Shetty received. In the meantime, the success of both KGF Chapter 2 and this Kannada fantasy drama was celebrated by Hombale Films, the company that also produced KGF Chapter 2. At the 70th National Film Awards, the Yash-starrer received two awards, one for Best Kannada Film and the other for Best Action Direction.


Meanwhile, Ponniyin Selvan 1 by Mani Ratnam won multiple awards in the Tamil film category, including Best Tamil Film, Best Music Direction by A. R. Rahman, Best Sound Design by Anand Krishnamoorthi, and Best Cinematography by Ravi Varman. In addition, the Dhanush-starrer Thiruchitrabalam received two awards, one for Best Actress (which she shared with Manasi Parekh for the Gujarati film Kutch Express) and the other for Best Choreography (Jani Master – Satish Krishnan).

When it comes to Malayalam cinema, Aattam won three awards, including Best Feature Film, Best Editing, and Best Screenplay (Anand Ekarshi). The awards for Best Malayalam Film and Best Playback Singing Female (Bombay Jayshree) went to another film, Saudi Vellaka. Karthikeya 2 won the award for Best Telugu Film in Telugu.
