The biggest spectacle of Indian cinema, Ramayana: Part One, has begun its advance bookings in India, and the response has been impressive. With 12 days left until its grand release on November 5, the Ranbir Kapoor and Yash starrer has already sold over 1 lakh tickets in the top national chains – PVR INOX and Cinepolis – as of Sunday, October 25, at 9 AM.The film is doing exceptionally well in IMAX properties, whereas the pre-sales elsewhere are performing reasonably well at the moment.
Of the total 1,07,562 tickets sold, PVR INOX has contributed 96,645 tickets, while Cinepolis has recorded sales of 10,917 tickets.
That said, Ramayana is expected to gain stronger momentum as it approaches its grand release date of November 5.
The target for Ramayana will be to cross the 5 lakh mark in the national chains, though the pre-Diwali factor could keep it from achieving this milestone. For the Nitesh Tiwari directorial, anything north of 3.5 lakh tickets for the opening day will be a good result for a pre-Diwali release.
The pricing is at an all-time high, with IMAX shows crossing the Rs.
2,000 mark at several locations, and interestingly, there are sales in those centres too. This is just the beginning, as Ramayana will be aiming for an onslaught in pre-sales from Wednesday, October 28, when the final eight days leading up to the release begin.
The target for Ramayana should be to top the Rs.
70 crore mark on November 5 and build from there. However, keeping in mind the limitations of the pre-Diwali period, a start of Rs.60 crore will also keep the film firmly in the race for big results over the peak Diwali period starting November 9.
All said and done, the engine has started gathering momentum.
With over 1 lakh tickets already sold and the biggest phase of advance bookings still to come, it's only a matter of time before Ramayana turns up the heat at the box office.
