Yesterday, on October 26, Bollywood Hungama shared news that the popular film Mohra (1994), featuring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Raveena Tandon, will be shown again in theaters during Diwali. This comes just as the much-anticipated movie Ramayana is also coming out that week.Mohra's director, Rajiv Rai, talked to Bollywood Hungama while he was in Koh Samui, Thailand, for an event, and gave more details about the plans for the re-release.
Rajiv Rai said, "Yes, Mohra is being shown again, but only in a very limited way, on small screens across the country.
It will keep moving from one place to another over the next six months. My latest movie, Zora, also had a re-release on October 23.Maybe some of my other older films will do the same."
He also explained, "These movies won't be shown in places like PVR or other big multiplexes because the ticket prices there are high, and the Virtual Print Fee charged by the theaters is also expensive.
These films have been watched millions of times, and in reality, they don't make much money anymore.I'm just doing this as a way to keep them alive.Sometimes, showing old films again can be successful, but it's not common. You have to keep moving them around the country. If you do that, the total earnings can add up to something meaningful over time."
Regarding the reports that Mohra is conflicting with Ramayana, Rajiv Rai clarified, "I'm not going against Ramayana.
Because people have moved away from Diwali, there are some smaller theaters that are free, and I'm trying to take advantage of that.Plus, it's a good time to start something new.Anyway, Ramayana can't book all the theaters in the country."
He added, "There might not even be a theater showing Mohra in Mumbai, so there's no real conflict with any other film.
These old movies are basically done, but there's still interest from a certain group of people. Some people want to watch old films on big screens, and for them, we are bringing back Mohra."
