Raazi characters aren’t any less patriotic than Dhurandhar’s,” says Meghna Gulzar; explains the difference

Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar talked about how different movies show patriotism in various ways.She compared her 2018 film Raazi with another movie called Dhurandhar, which is more action-based.Meghna explained that the main difference is not about how patriotic the characters are, but about the kind of stories they tell.

She said, "The characters in Raazi are not any less patriotic than those in Dhurandhar." She explained that the difference comes from how the stories are told.

"The difference is in the story.I don't think the characters in Raazi are any less patriotic than those in Dhurandhar.It's how they act because of the way the story is told.One doesn't have to be right, and the other doesn't have to be wrong.Patriotism and prayers don't need to be loud.They can be expressed in many different ways.Every person has their own way of showing it," she said.

Meghna discussed this topic during an interview on the podcast Learn By KK Create.

She was asked about Dhurandhar and whether her view on patriotism is different from other films.She explained that the characters in Raazi are not less patriotic just because their patriotism is shown differently on screen.

Raazi, released in 2018, stars Alia Bhatt as Sehmat, a young Indian woman who becomes an undercover operative and is sent to Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

The film shows her mission through her personal relationships, the sacrifices she makes, and the moral choices she faces.

For Meghna, the character's patriotism does not always mean there's no moral conflict.

When asked if there is a limit to the kind of patriotism she would show on screen, she said the character's own limits were what was important."There is no limit.If the character doesn't have a limit, how can I?There was no limit to Raazi's character's patriotism.She had a limit when it came to her moral compass," she said.

On the professional front, Meghna Gulzar is now working on her next film, Daayra, which stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran.
