Kareena Kapoor Khan recently took part in the trailer launch of the movie Daayra along with director Meghna Gulzar and the team behind the film.During the event, she was asked about the ongoing controversy surrounding the Giva jewellery commercial that featured Kriti Sanon. However, Kareena seemed unsure about commenting on the issue and didn't share her thoughts on it.
The controversy started when Kriti Sanon appeared in a special Raksha Bandhan advertisement for the jewellery brand Giva, wearing an Indo-western fusion outfit with a bralette-style blouse.
The look created a lot of discussion on social media, with some people not liking the choice of clothing, while others supported Kriti and her belief that women should have freedom in their clothing choices.
As the discussion continued, reporters at the Daayra trailer launch asked Kareena for her opinion about outfit choices in a film.
But Kareena seemed a bit uncomfortable and didn't want to answer.Director Meghna Gulzar then took over and answered the question. She said, "In that film, whether it's a female or male character – the dressing depends on that."
After the Giva ad became more controversial, the brand took it down from their online platforms.
Giva also apologized for the backlash but said they still supported the intention behind the campaign.
The issue also brought more attention to the topic of clothing choices and how women are judged based on what they wear.
Kriti faced a lot of online criticism for her look in the ad, but many social media users supported her and her views on personal choice.
Meanwhile, Kareena Kapoor Khan is preparing for Daayra, which is her first project with director Meghna Gulzar.
The film is a crime drama about two police officers with very different beliefs and values who end up working together on an investigation into a serious crime committed by juveniles.
The film's story is centered around the differences between the two officers as they try to solve the case and deal with their conflicts.
Daayra is set to be released in cinemas on September 18, 2026.
