Mouni Roy reacts to backlash over playing Varun Dhawan’s mother in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai: “If the role is good, I don’t care”

Actor Mouni Roy recently talked about the criticism and online comments she received after playing the role of Varun Dhawan's mother in the film *Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai*.She said that even though some people questioned her choice to take on a motherly role, she didn't think about her age or image when deciding to accept the part.Instead, she focused on the character and the story.

Mouni Roy said, “If the role is good, I don't care.” She shared that many people told her not to take the role because playing a mother at this stage in her career might change how people see her.
But she said she never cared about those opinions and thought the role was important for the story.

She recalled some of the comments she got, like, “Why are you playing Varun Dhawan’s mother?
Are you mad?” But she said those didn’t stop her from doing what she believed was right as an actor.

Mouni explained that she always prefers roles that let her act well, no matter what the character is or how it relates to others in the film.
She said an actor’s job is to act believably, not to fit into certain expectations.

She also said she never lets others' opinions decide what she does in her career.
She believes in acting for the sake of the role, not for popularity or image.

The film *Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai*, directed by David Dhawan, has a big cast including Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, Pooja Hegde, Mouni Roy, Jimmy Shergill, Chunky Panday, Maniesh Paul, Rajesh Kumar, and Kubbra Sait.
