Maa Behen Movie Review: MAA BEHEN is a quirky and entertaining dark comedy.

Maa Behen Review {3.0/5} & Review Rating

Star Cast: Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, Dharna Durga

Director: Suresh Triveni

Maa Behen Movie Review Synopsis:
Maa Behen is about three women in trouble.
Rekha (Madhuri Dixit) is a widow who lives alone in Adarsh Colony. Her older daughter, Jaya (Triptii Dimri), is married to Manas (Shardul Bhardwaj). Her younger daughter, Sushma (Dharna Durga), lives separately. One night, Rekha calls her daughter and cries a lot. She says she accidentally killed her neighbor, Charitra Kumar Gupta (Ravi Kishan), when he came to her house late at night. Jaya and Sushma rush to Adarsh Colony. Rekha says she killed him to protect herself, but the police might not believe her. So, they decide to hide the body in a canal at night. But this is difficult because Gupta's daughter, Goldie (Rrama Sharma), is getting married soon. A big celebration, called a 'jagrata', will go on until dawn. Gupta's wife (Geetanjali Kulkarni) is worried because her husband hasn’t come back. She tells her brother, a police officer named Maheshwari (Arunoday Singh), and he starts looking for him. Maheshwari used to have feelings for Jaya from when they were in school. What happens next is the rest of the movie.

Maa Behen Movie Story Review:
The story by Suresh Triveni and Pooja Tolani is funny and new.
Pooja Tolani’s script is good and keeps you interested from start to finish. But sometimes the writing is not clear enough. Her dialogues are smart, funny, and even make people laugh out loud.

Suresh Triveni’s direction is okay.
He makes the story feel stylish, which adds to the fun. There’s a TV host, Shreevardhan Trivedi, who is part of the story and helps explain the background of the three main characters. That’s a clever idea. The movie has a big surprise early on that catches you off guard and adds to the humor. It also comments on how society and patriarchy work, which is something people will enjoy.

However, the main story about the three women trying to fix their mistake is good.
But the other parts of the story don’t work as well. The relationship between Rekha, Jaya, and Sushma is confusing. The part with the wine shop and the special appearance of an actor is weak and could have been handled better. The ending is worth watching, but it feels a bit too easy.

Maa Behen Movie Review Performances:
Madhuri Dixit looks amazing and her performance is great fun.
She plays a character very different from how she is in real life, but she does it perfectly. Triptii Dimri gives a solid performance and has some great funny moments. Her angry scene in the second half is really good. Dharna Durga is a surprise and performs very well, even among the big stars. Ravi Kishan gives another memorable performance. Geetanjali Kulkarni steals the show, and Arunoday Singh has a strong presence. Rrama Sharma is okay. Jatin Sarna (Sukumar) and Paresh Rawal (Chandru Dwivedi) do fine in their brief roles. Shreevardhan Trivedi is hilarious.

Maa Behen movie music and other technical aspects:
'Kaari Kaari' is the best song in the movie, while 'Dhak Dhak Reloaded' is catchy.
'Khol Pinjara' and 'Yeh Kaisi Raat' aren’t as memorable. Subhajit Mukherjee’s background score matches the quirky nature of the film.

Anuj Rakesh Dhawan’s cinematography is simple but works well.
Ajay H Chodankar and Vipin Kumar’s production design feels real but also has a cinematic look. Veera Kapur Ee’s costumes are glamorous for Madhuri Dixit and good for the rest. Zero Gravity’s VFX is okay overall, but some scenes with a cat look cheap. Dipika Kalra’s editing is sharp.

Maa Behen Movie Review Conclusion:
Overall, Maa Behen is a quirky and funny dark comedy.
It’s fun to watch because of its interesting idea, stylish way of telling the story, and strong performances. However, some parts are unclear, some subplots are weak, and the ending feels too easy. Still, it’s a good movie for people who like this kind of comedy.
