A few hours after actor Ranveer Singh received a threatening WhatsApp voice message asking for a large sum of money, a close friend of Salman Khan has now got a similar threat via email.
The message is said to be from someone connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who is currently in jail.
Threat email demands crores
According to IANS, a threatening email was sent to a close associate of Salman Khan, who is an actor in the film industry.
The message reportedly asked for a huge amount of money and mentioned being linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Sources in Mumbai Police say the Crime Branch has started an investigation into the matter.
Officials are tracking the mobile locations of suspects near the homes of several celebrities and have increased security in sensitive areas.
So far, no official police complaint has been filed by Salman Khan or the person who received the email.
Ranveer Singh also targeted
On Tuesday, February 10, Ranveer Singh reportedly got a WhatsApp voice message that threatened him and asked for a large sum of money.
After the threat, Mumbai Police increased security around the actor's home and started searching for the sender.
Police believe that members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang might be behind this extortion attempt.
Ranveer Singh was last seen in the movie Dhurandhar.
Background: Salman Khan and the Bishnoi gang
The tension between Salman Khan and the Bishnoi gang started in 1998, during the shooting of Hum Saath Saath Hain.
The actor was reportedly on a hunting trip and killed a blackbuck, which is considered sacred by the Bishnoi community.
Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently in jail, had publicly said that his life's mission was to either get Salman Khan to apologize for the incident or kill him.
The latest threat comes after another major security incident.
On February 1, gunshots were fired at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's home in Juhu, Mumbai. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang later claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has started a formal investigation into the recent threats.
With several incidents involving famous film personalities happening in a short time, police have increased their surveillance and security in the city.
Authorities have not yet confirmed if the same people or gang are connected to both the Ranveer Singh and Salman Khan associate threats.
The investigation is still ongoing.
