Rajkumar Hirani-Aamir Khan’s Dadasaheb Phalke biopic to go on floors in March 2026 after script revisions: Report

Aamir Khan and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani's long-awaited biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke has had a change in its filming schedule. Originally, the movie was planned to start shooting in January 2026, but now the team is set to begin filming in late March 2026.

In September 2025, Mid-Day reported that the film was ready to start early next year, with Aamir reportedly moved to tears while revisiting key moments from Phalke’s life.
But the plans have changed as the actor and director have decided to work on the script more before starting filming.

According to insiders, a new version of the script is being created now, which fits both Hirani and Aamir's creative ideas while also honoring the story of Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, who is known as the Father of Indian cinema.
The goal is to make the story connect with today's audience without losing its historical truth.

A source told Mid-Day, “Hirani and Aamir both think the film needs to feel modern but still connected to history.
The rewrite is to find the right mix of humor and sincerity. They aim to show Phalke's importance in the story. The script is likely to be done by February, and filming will start in late March.”

This comes after Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani announced their third collaboration, following big hits like 3 Idiots and PK.
The news made a lot of excitement in the industry. But soon, it was reported that the project had been paused for creative reasons.

Earlier, reliable sources told  that both Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani were not happy with the first drafts of the script.
“Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani value perfection, and they weren’t satisfied with the script of Dadasaheb Phalke biopic. Aamir felt the script was too dry for today’s audience and didn’t have the humor fans expect from their work,” the source said.

The source also added, “After many rewrite sessions, the duo decided to pause the project.
They believe that a person as important as Dadasaheb Phalke deserves a script that is both emotionally moving and universally appealing. Until they meet that standard, they aren’t in a rush to start filming.”

Meanwhile, Aamir is carefully looking at his upcoming projects.
He is said to be reading several scripts and is expected to announce his next film in the first part of 2026. “He is currently reading at least 20 scripts and will choose one from the shortlisted options,” a source said.

Right now, Aamir is busy promoting his upcoming film, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, directed by Vir Das, which is set to release on January 16, 2026.
