Just about a year after Chhaava (February 2025), Bollywood has had its biggest opening at the box office. The Vicky Kaushal movie made around Rs. 33.10 crores on its first day, while the Sunny Deol film made Rs. 32.10 crores. Even though it wasn't a holiday, this is still a very strong number.
In 2023, several movies opened with over Rs. 40 to 60 crores, and in 2024, Stree 2 crossed Rs. 50 crores, while Pushpa 2 (Hindi) made past Rs. 70 crores.
But 2025 started off slowly. Apart from Chhaava, no other movie opened in the 30s, and most made under Rs. 20 crores even on holidays. Border 2 changed that by breaking the trend and making over Rs. 30 crores. It looked like Rs. 40 crores was possible, but the gap wasn't too big. With the upcoming Republic Day holiday on Monday and an extended four-day weekend, the deficit should be covered easily.
The film directed by Anurag Singh is expected to cross Rs. 100 crores by Sunday.
The goal is to hit Rs. 150 crores by the end of Monday. That will put it in the Rs. 200 Crore Club in its first week, helping it enter the safe zone soon.
