Trade experts think the advance bookings for both films aren’t really strong.
They said, “The people behind Kantara should have told the audience more about the setting. Sunny Sanskari should have been darker and edgier with sad songs to get people interested.”

Alia Bhatt was there multiple times.
Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “Right now, the excitement around both films isn’t at its peak.
They’re both coming out on Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra, which are big holidays. This will help both movies. Spot bookings on Thursday and word of mouth will play a big role. The advance numbers aren’t too strong for both, though Kantara is leading.”
Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal agreed, “The advance for Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 isn’t as good as expected.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan added, “Kantara is slowly picking up. The national holiday will definitely help.”
Kantara was expected to be a big hit, but that hasn’t happened yet.
Vishek Chauhan, who runs a cinema in Purnia, Bihar, said, “The advance numbers we’re seeing aren’t very encouraging. The first part of Kantara was a big hit, and the team thought that would mean this one would do well too. But KGF and Pushpa were made in a way that excited people to go see them. Kantara is a different genre, so they needed to make it into an event. They should have spent more time telling people what the story is about and who the characters are. That would have helped people understand and get excited.”
He added, “The trailer didn’t really grab people’s attention.
It looked like any other medieval-style movie. There are no big songs, cool action scenes, or any big surprises. Also, the connections to the first part aren’t clear. The team should have explained it more. That’s why Hindi audiences aren’t showing much interest. Still, I hope people talk about the movie a lot and it ends up being a hit.”
Raj Bansal doesn’t think the trailer failed, “The trailer was well received.
But some people didn’t feel excited enough, so the advance hasn’t come up as much as we thought.”
Atul Mohan talked about Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, “The marketing didn’t keep the excitement going.
It should have been more intense. There was some buzz early on, but after the trailer, it dropped. The marketing team should have kept the momentum going.”
Vishek Chauhan further added, “The problem with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is that it’s very old-fashioned.
It feels like My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) all over again. That story about a guy trying to stop his love’s wedding became a genre after that film, and it’s been going on for almost 27 years. There’s nothing new here. Also, the trailer gave away too much of the story.”
He said, “Moreover, the movie looks like it was made before the pandemic.
It seems like a light-hearted comedy with clever jokes. These days, people want things like if the heroine leaves, the hero will do anything to get her back. That used to be seen as cheesy. When Sanam Teri Kasam came out, it didn’t do well in theaters. But now, it worked big time. Even Saiyaara did well because that kind of content is hard to find. Animal became a hit just because it was different. Also, people want songs that move them. If Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari had a darker tone and edgy songs by Arijit Singh, it would have done much better.”
Despite these points, experts are hopeful that both movies will do well at the box office.
Taran Adarsh said, “People are comparing which one will do better. For the health of the industry, it’s important that both movies work. Advance bookings aren’t a big indicator. Spot bookings can change things. It’s a four-day weekend. Even if Friday is a working day, if the films stay strong, they’ll be okay. But it all depends on how people talk about them.”
He added, “Both movies are coming from big studios like Hombale Films and Dharma Productions.
This clash is going to be worth watching!”
