"Earlier, I used to say Shahid's main strength is in drama, and no one had really used that.
He was getting only roles of the nice boy type. It was Vishal Bhardwaj who really tapped into that. These movies helped bring out the actor inside Shahid later. He also became smarter about which films to take and which to avoid. He did a great job in Haider, and he also did well in Farzi," Pankaj said.
When asked about Shahid's performance in Kabir Singh, a film that sparked a lot of discussion and is seen as praising toxic masculinity, Pankaj said, "He did good work in Kabir Singh too.
That's fine because it doesn't mean that toxic masculinity doesn't exist. It does exist in society, and because someone made a movie about it, we started to protest. This is just our own way of looking at things."
Pankaj also explained that while he didn't formally train Shahid in acting, he did help him a little. "
No, I never really trained him. He once asked for a workshop, so we worked together for 6-7 days. But he ended up joining Naseeruddin Shah's workshop in Delhi and stayed with him for some time," he added.
On the professional side, Shahid is currently working on Cocktail 2 with Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna.
He will also appear in Vishal Bhardwaj's next film, which will be their fourth project together. The movie, titled O Romeo, will also feature Triptii Dimri as the female lead.
