Abhishek Bachchan won the Best Actor (Male) – Film for his role in I Want to Talk.
He was very emotional after his win and said it was a special moment for him. He shared that this role was important because it was inspired by his father and daughter, and it was about caring for someone who is aging.
The festival recognized a wide variety of Indian stories, both in films and television.
Homebound was the best film, and Neeraj Ghaywan helped it win Best Director. Angammal got the Best Indie Film award, and Gugun Kigpen received a Special Mention for Boong. Geetha Kailasam won Best Actor (Female) – Film for her performance in Angammal.
In the TV category, Black Warrant won Best Series.
Jaideep Ahlawat won Best Actor (Male) – Series for Paatal Lok Season 2, and Nimisha Sajayan won Best Actor (Female) – Series for Dabba Cartel. Jaideep said he was very thankful for the recognition and thanked his team for their hard work.
Other awards included the Leadership in Cinema Award to Arvind Swamy, the Disruptor Award to Vir Das, the Diversity in Cinema Award to Aditi Rao Hydari, and the Equality in Cinema Award to Baksho Bondi.
Arvind Swamy said he was still learning from cinema and wanted to take on challenging roles.
In the short film category, Kalar Pencils by Dhananjay Santosh Goregaonkar won Best Short Film (India), and Drifters by David Liu won Best Short Film (Australia).
The IFFM is now in its 16th year and continues to be the biggest Indian film festival outside of India.
It brings together filmmakers, stars, and movie lovers in a big celebration of cinema. The festival runs until August 24, and Homebound is the closing film.
