Sikh body demands BAN on Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency: Expresses concerns over misrepresentation of Sikhs

Several days after the release of the trailer for Kangana Ranaut's Emergency, prominent Sikh organizations have called for the film to be banned right away. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akal Takht, the Sikhs' highest temporal seat, have voiced strong opposition to the film, alleging that it misrepresents Sikh figures and disrespects the history of the community.
Akal Takht and the SGPC Demand a Ban on Emergency The SGPC chief, Harjinder Singh Dhami, expressed his concerns during a press conference, asserting that the film intentionally portrays Sikhs in a negative light. Vicky Kaushal was snapped at the Pickleball Championship season 2. He said that the movie was an attempt to "character assassinate" Sikhs, especially Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who the community thinks is a martyr.

Controversy centered on the political drama Emergency, which depicts the period after the Emergency was imposed in India in 1975 and is accused of distorted Sikh history. Kangana Ranaut stars as previous Top state leader Indira Gandhi, and the film portrays her political excursion and the difficulties she confronted. However, Sikh leaders have expressed displeasure with the portrayal of certain Sikh characters and events.

The film was condemned by Gyani Raghbir Singh, the Jathedar (head) of the Akal Takht, who claimed that it portrayed Sikhs as separatists and misrepresented their role in history. He said that the way the film showed Sikhs was part of a "deep conspiracy" and that it made an "anti-Sikh narrative." In addition, Singh asserted that Emergency disrespects the memory of Sikh martyrs and emphasized the sensitive nature of the events of June 1984, a time of significant turmoil for the Sikh community.

Call for Government Action The SGPC has also demanded legal action against Kangana Ranaut, as well as a ban on the film. Dhami urged the authorities to file an FIR against the actress, claiming that the film had incited religious sentiments. He likewise scrutinized the public authority for purportedly safeguarding Ranaut in spite of her past dubious assertions about Sikhs and Punjab.

In addition, the president of the SGPC urged the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting to ban the movie right away. He said that misrepresentations of the Sikh community's history in movies have hurt them in the past and should be avoided in the future. Also, Dhami required the consideration of Sikh individuals in the Focal Leading group of Film Confirmation (CBFC) to guarantee that Sikh opinions are regarded in Indian film.

Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik are among the stellar cast of The Film's Release and Ongoing Debate Emergency, which is scheduled to open worldwide on September 6, 2024. The demand for a ban has not been met by the filmmakers, despite the growing controversy.
