Imran Khan is facing this challenge after participating in a protest organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in Mumbai.
The protest was aimed at demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Following the protest, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya filed a complaint with the police, claiming that Imran Khan's involvement in the demonstration violated the rules for foreign citizens.
The police then passed this complaint to the FRRO, which issued a notice asking the actor to leave the country.
The FRRO argues that even though Imran Khan has an OCI card, he is still considered a foreign national and therefore cannot take part in protests.
The order has been issued under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.Section 7 of this law allows the Central Government to set rules that can restrict or control the presence or movement of foreign nationals in India.
Veteran actor Raza Murad has criticized Imran Khan, saying that foreign nationals should not interfere in India’s internal affairs.
He also supports the authorities’ actions, noting that the actor has been given time to respond to the order and can seek legal help if he feels the decision is unfair.
Murad told ANI, “Whether it’s Imran Khan or someone else, no foreign national has any right to interfere in the internal affairs of our country.
I just found out that Imran Khan has become a U.S.citizen; he used to be an actor here.As a U.S.citizen, he has no right to be so involved in the country's internal affairs or politics. The Mumbai Police are acting strictly within the law.”
He also pointed out that the actor has 15 days to respond to the order and can take his case to the court if he believes he is being treated unfairly or forced to leave the country.
Murad added, “He has been given a full 15 days.
If he thinks he is being treated unfairly or being pressed to leave the country, he can approach the court.Whatever the court decides, we all have to accept it.Let’s see how he reacts. He has two options: either leave by October 28, or if he does not want to leave, or feels wronged or treated unjustly, he can take his grievance to the court.”
Imran Khan’s planned legal challenge will now bring the issue before the Bombay High Court, where the validity of the FRRO’s order will be questioned.
