Rajkummar Rao and Pratibha Ranta to headline Dharma Productions’ fantasy horror Vishkanya

Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is moving into the horror and fantasy movie genres.The company has already planned a fantasy comedy called Naagzilla and a Malayalam period folk thriller named Odiyan: The Age of Illusion to come out next year.Additionally, they have two horror films in the works, one of which stars Aditya Roy Kapur.All these movies are set for theatrical release next year.

Dharma Productions is expanding its range of movie genres even more by adding a new fantasy horror film to its list.

Source has learned exclusively that Rajkummar Rao and Pratibha Ranta, who appeared in Laapataa Ladies, will lead the film Vishkanya.This movie combines a world filled with magic and fantasy with elements of fear and deep, unsettling horror.

Details about the plot are not being shared yet, but sources say the movie wants to create a unique mythical world that hasn’t been seen in recent Hindi films.

The film is expected to go beyond traditional horror stories and instead build a story around a magical world with its own set of rules and supernatural elements.

The movie will be directed by Sonal Joshi, who made her directorial debut with the Shilpa Shetty starrer comedy-drama Sukhee in 2023.

She has also worked as an assistant director on Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Dhoom 3, Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha and Jab Harry Met Sejal, and on Emraan Hashmi’s Netflix series Bard of Blood.Filming is expected to start by the end of this year.

Pratibha Ranta, who made her Bollywood debut in Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, will play the lead role of a "Vishkanya" in this project.

This will be her second film with Dharma Productions, following Accused, a psychological thriller that starred Konkona Sen Sharma and premiered on Netflix in February.It is also her second film with Rajkummar Rao, who previously starred in Mr.& Mrs.Mahi (2024), co-starring Janhvi Kapoor.

Dharma Productions has a strong lineup of movies planned for 2027-28.

Upcoming projects include Kartik Aaryan’s Naagzilla, Raj Mehta’s Lag Ja Gale starring Tiger Shroff, Lakshya and Janhvi Kapoor, and Prosit Roy’s untitled psychological romance featuring Lakshya and Vedika Pinto.The company also announced a big spy movie based on R.N.Kao, the founder of R&AW, India’s foreign intelligence agency.Another project in the works is a divine epic centered on the love story of Radha and Krishna.
