Sunny Deol gets TEARY-EYED at trailer launch as Rajkumar Santoshi reveals Batwara 1947 was the LAST film Dharmendra watched: “He said, ‘Yeh picture bahut chalegi'

Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Abhimanyu Singh, Karan Deol, director Rajkumar Santoshi, lyricist Javed Akhtar, writer Asghar Wajahat, and producer Aparna Purohit were at the trailer launch of Batwara 1947 in Mumbai.Rajkumar Santoshi started by talking about an interesting fact related to his father, P L Santoshi, whose film Shehnai came out on Independence Day.He also shared how the late actor Dharmendra was connected to Batwara 1947.

Santoshi said, "On August 15, 1947, my father's film Shehnai came out.

It was the only movie released that day in the country.It was a hit.One of its songs, 'Aana Meri Jaan Meri Jaan Sunday Ke Sunday,' is still popular today.Now, Batwara 1947 is also coming out on August 15." 

He continued, "Another thing I need to mention is that Dharam ji's blessings are very present in this film.

He listened to the story and got very emotional.He was even crying.He gave a lot of blessings.The last film he watched was Batwara 1947.He told me, 'Raj, this movie will do well.You all have done great work.' I am thankful and I want to thank Dharam ji today."

Sunny Deol had tears in his eyes when he heard Santoshi's words.

Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025.

Later, Shabana Azmi said, "My last film before this was with Dharam ji, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023).

My next film is with Sunny and Karan (smiles).I can also make a film with Abhay Deol.By the way, please tell Bobby sir that he should be ready to act with me too!" 

Batwara 1947 is produced by Aamir Khan Productions and will be shown in cinemas on August 14.
