The situation has now become a public issue in the film industry.
Bollywood Hungama has learned that an effort was made earlier to find a middle ground. Sources say that in early March, a meeting was held with several top industry people, including Aamir Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, and Ritesh Sidhwani. During this meeting, Ranveer Singh’s team made a special offer to Excel Entertainment.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Ranveer’s team offered to pay Rs. 10 crores upfront to Excel Entertainment.
They also offered a discount of Rs. 25 crores on any other film Excel may want to do with him outside of Don 3. The idea was to give Excel immediate compensation while keeping the professional relationship open for the future.”
But the offer did not work for Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
The source said, “Excel felt that the future discount offer didn’t make sense because they had no plans to work with Ranveer again. They were very clear they didn’t want to work with him after the issues over the last two years. They felt the delays and uncertainty had caused them significant financial and professional damage. Therefore, they refused the offer. They wanted upfront money instead.”
The disagreement comes from Excel Entertainment’s claim that a lot of money had already been spent on the pre-production of Don 3.
Industry sources say that Excel had presented their demand for compensation to the relevant bodies, citing losses from pre-production and preparations for the film.
EXCLUSIVE: Rs. 10 crores upfront, Rs. 25 crores discount – Ranveer Singh’s March peace offer to Excel failed before yesterday’s Don 3 explosion
Ranveer’s side has a different view of the situation.
The actor and his team were upset about Excel’s alleged efforts to find other actors during a tough time in Ranveer’s career. It’s said that the film was also considered with Hrithik Roshan, which did not please Ranveer’s team.
A source close to the situation said, “Ranveer felt that if Excel wasn’t fully supporting him when he needed their confidence, then trust had already been broken.
He wasn’t convinced the script was the right follow-up to Dhurandhar. After the impact that film had, he wanted full confidence from the director and the production house. He felt Farhan was distracted and the project didn’t have the kind of complete commitment it required.”
Those close to Ranveer insist the actor didn’t want to leave Excel in a bad situation.
“That’s why the offer was made. Rs. 10 crores upfront and a Rs. 25 crores discount on a future film was Ranveer’s way of trying to settle the issue nicely. But Excel didn’t want a future collaboration. They just wanted cash compensation,” the source added.
With FWICE’s latest directive not to cooperate, the situation has moved beyond private meetings and has entered a much more serious phase.
What was once a disagreement between an actor and a production house has now turned into a major controversy in the Hindi film industry.
Both sides are currently waiting to see what happens next.
But one thing is clear: the fallout from Don 3 has turned into a big industry issue, with Ranveer Singh, Excel Entertainment, and the wider film community watching the developments closely.
