Raja Shivaji Box Office: Riteish Deshmukh's Historical Epic Creates History With Record Opening

Mumbai, May 1 - Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company's historical action drama Raja Shivaji has made history even before it starts showing in cinemas. The film has already achieved the highest opening ever for a Marathi movie just from advance bookings, setting the stage for a huge opening.

Record Advance Booking Sets the Tone
Directed by and starring Riteish Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji finished its advance booking with a total of 5.14 crore gross (without counting block seats).
This includes a remarkable 4.25 crore gross (3.60 crore net) just from the original Marathi version. This is a big achievement for the film industry and puts it at the top for opening day collections among Marathi movies.

What makes this even more impressive is that the film has already reached the highest opening-day sales through advance bookings alone.
Spot bookings and walk-ins are expected to make the final Day 1 total even bigger. With 3.60 crore net in advance sales, Raja Shivaji has beaten the long-standing opening-day records of Sairat and Timepass 2, which each made around 3.60 crore net.

Strong Maharashtra Performance Drives Numbers
The film's strong start is mainly because of its Marathi version, which has seen good attendance across both multiplexes and single-screen theaters in Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, the Hindi version is also doing well with advance sales, and its opening day figures are already close to 1 crore gross before the release.

The story, subject, and presentation of Raja Shivaji have clearly connected with the audience.
With this opening, the film not only set a new record but also raised the commercial possibilities for Marathi cinema, showing that regional films can have blockbuster openings with the right mix of story and presentation.
