Filmmaker Anees Bazmee has officially said he is teaming up with Akshay Kumar again after 15 years. Rumors about their working together had been around for a while, but Bazmee cleared up the confusion by saying they are making a new comedy film.
In a chat with Mid-Day, Bazmee said the script for the film is almost done.
“It is a comedy. I am writing the script now, it’s almost complete. If everything goes as planned, we will start shooting soon,” he said. The movie doesn’t have a title yet, and although some reports said it might be a remake of the Telugu action-comedy Sankranthiki Vasthunam, Bazmee didn’t confirm or deny those claims.
Bazmee also talked about his long friendship with Akshay Kumar.
He said they always had a good relationship. “There is mutual love and respect between us. When I told him about this film, he was very happy,” he added, mentioning that they stayed in touch even though they hadn’t worked together since Thank You (2011).
It’s also worth noting that Bollywood Hungama was the first to report about the reunion between Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee.
People might remember that a source told Bollywood Hungama, “Anees and Akshay loved the plot of the lead character stuck between his wife and ex-girlfriend that Sankranthiki Vasthunam is based on. However, the original had a lot of Telugu flavor. To make the film work for Hindi audiences, Anees Bazmee is reimagining it, but keeping the main story the same.”
On the acting front, Akshay Kumar has a lot going on.
He will be in Haiwaan and Bhoot Bangla, both directed by Priyadarshan, and is also set to return to the Hera Pheri series with Hera Pheri 3, which is also directed by Priyadarshan.
