Director: Raj-DK, Tusshar Seyth, Suman Kumar
Synopsis:
THE FAMILY MAN SEASON 3 is about a spy who faces the biggest challenge of his career.
Some years have passed since the events of SEASON 2. Suchitra (Priyamani) has bought a bigger flat, and she, her husband Srikant Tiwari (Manoj Bajpayee), daughter Dhriti (Ashlesha Thakur), and son Atharv (Vedant Sinha) have moved in. Suchitra and Srikant aren’t talking much and are thinking about getting a divorce. Meanwhile, Srikant and his boss, Gautam Kulkarni (Dalip Tahil), go to Kohima, Nagaland. There have been explosions in six cities in the Northeast within 48 hours, putting in danger Prime Minister Basu's (Seema Biswas) special project called Project Sahakar. This project brings together rebel groups with the aim of bringing peace and stability. It would have been possible without the respected local leader, David Khuzou (Sunil Thapa). Srikant and Kulkarni meet David the day before the deal is to be signed. David’s grandson, Stephen Khuzou (Paalin Kabak), heads a faction called MCA-S, and he is against the deal, telling David so clearly. On the day of the deal, the convoy of David, Srikant, and Kulkarni is attacked by a dangerous drug dealer, Rukma (Jaideep Ahlawat). Rukma kills David and Kulkarni and leaves Srikant alive, thinking he’s dead. Srikant survives and is able to recognize Rukma. Stephen is thought to be behind the attack and goes into hiding. Unexpectedly, the NIA suspects Srikant as well because he survived and few knew about the convoy’s route. Suchitra is also dealing with problems when the government bans 69 Chinese apps, including her app, ShrinkMe. She defends it on a news show, but it backfires. A trolling campaign starts against her, and Dhruti is also pulled into it. An arrest order is issued against Srikant, and he decides to run with his family. The NIA, TASC, and TASC's new head, Yatish Chawla (Harman Singha), are after him, but he outsmarts them and leaves Mumbai. What happens next is the rest of the story.
The Family Man Season 3 Story Review:
The story by Raj-DK, Tusshar Seyth, and Suman Kumar is promising, with Srikant facing bigger challenges than before.
The screenplay by Raj-DK, Tusshar Seyth, Nikhil Gonsalves, Sudhish Kamath, and Suman Kumar is engaging and weaves in humor well, which is a strength of the show. But when compared with the previous seasons, the writing feels less impressive. Sumit Arora’s dialogues are funny, witty, and one of the best aspects of the show.
The direction by Raj-DK, Tusshar Seyth, and Suman Kumar is excellent.
The beauty of their work is that even in chaotic and tense moments, they ensure the audience laughs. This is not an easy balance, as jokes may not land well. But every line or joke intended to be funny does work well. Two standout scenes are when Srikant tells his son he is a spy and when the TC asks about JK Talpade (Sharib Hashmi), with Srikant coming up with a hilarious story. On the other hand, the confrontation between David and Stephen is meaningful. The scenes showing Rukma and how he plans his moves are also worth watching. The geopolitical angle has its own charm, with a sense of real life, drawing from real-world events like the ban on Chinese apps, organized trolling, and news channels being used or misused by certain interests. Moreover, Raj-DK's shows are known for one-take shots. In this season, there's a slight tweak in the attack scene at Rukma's farmhouse, which is commendable.
However, the new season doesn't match up to Season 1 and 2, especially in terms of humor.
The earlier seasons had jokes that became popular and are still remembered. While humor is present in Season 3, it doesn’t reach the same level. The track of Meera (Nimrat Kaur) is not convincing; a smart and careful person like her reveals her identity too easily, which doesn’t make sense. The show ends with a chilling cliffhanger, but some storylines are left unresolved. Lastly, the character of Chellam Sir (Uday Mahesh), who became popular in Season 2, gets a short shrift this time.
The Family Man Season 3 Performances:
Manoj Bajpayee once again plays the Family Man character very naturally.
This is his most charming performance, and the way he does it perfectly makes the show better. Priyamani makes a strong impression, and her relationship with her husband is different this time, which is nice, even though there are still some questions left. Ashlesha Thakur and Vedant Sinha are very good, and they even get to try new things in this season. Sharib Hashmi is as adorable as ever. Jaideep Ahlawat is excellent and his long hair look is really cool. Nimrat Kaur isn't as well supported by the script, but she still does a great job. Shreya Dhanwanthary, who plays Zoya, comes back in a big role and is very good. Jugal Hansraj, Harman Singha, Jason Tham, and Andrea Kevichüsa are all well cast. Sunil Thapa and Dalip Tahil make a strong impression even though they don’t have much screen time. Seema Biswas, Paalin Kabak, Gul Panag, Vipin Sharma, and Aritro Rudraneil Banerjee are reliable. Vijay Vikram Singh and Aditya Srivastava have limited parts. Riyan Mipi is cute. Uday Mahesh feels forced.
The Family Man Season 3 music and other technical aspects:
Sachin-Jigar's original title music sets the mood quickly.
Ketan Sodha’s background music is exciting. Jay Charola’s cinematography is both rough and stunning. Parichit Paralkar’s production design is excellent, and Neha R Bajaj’s costumes look real. Yannick Ben and Aejaz Gulab’s action sequences add excitement. Sumeet Kotian’s editing is smooth.
The Family Man Season 3 Review Conclusion:
Overall, THE FAMILY MAN SEASON 3 is a satisfying and exciting new part of the series.
It mixes action, drama, tension, and funny moments just like fans expect. The writing has some weak spots and a few scenes feel underdeveloped. Still, because of the huge popularity of the series and the love for Srikant Tiwari’s world, this season is likely to draw a big audience and keep viewers excited for the next one.
Rating – 4 stars.
