The moviegoers and the film industry are very sad because their favorite actor, Dharmendra, passed away at the age of 89 on Monday, November 24. Many people from the film world shared their memories and feelings. On the same day, superstar Shah Rukh Khan posted a touching message calling Dharmendra a father figure. In 2024, Dharmendra shared a photo with SRK, and in 2023, he also wished SRK luck for his film Jawan. Bollywood Hungama looked through old stories and found some interesting quotes from Dharmendra that show how close he and SRK were.
Dharmendra once said he was jealous of Shah Rukh Khan: "Itni khoobsurat ladkiyon ke saath yeh romance kar raha hai!
Toh main kyun nahin?" SRK also shared his thoughts about Dharmendra's film Apne, saying, "He told me I should have promoted it better."
In July 2015, during the promotion of Second Hand Husband, Dharmendra talked about how Shah Rukh Khan had once told him the Deol family should promote their films more to get people's attention.
This was about Apne (2007), which starred Dharmendra and his two sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
Dharmendra said, "Apne was a good film and there was nothing like it in the sports genre.
Many sports films got media support, but ours didn't. I remember Shah Rukh Khan told me I should have promoted and marketed it better to get attention."
He also explained that Sunny Deol didn’t believe in a lot of promotion, saying, "Sunny thinks doing too much promotion is like blowing your own trumpet.
"
At the 42nd Filmfare Awards in February 1997, Dharmendra got the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Shah Rukh Khan came on stage to introduce him and had tears in his eyes while talking about Dharmendra's greatness.
Dharmendra called Shah Rukh Khan his "chota bhai" and added, "Dilip Kapoor Saab, Raj Kapoor Saab, Dev Anand Saab gave me inspiration and actors like Shah Rukh Khan and my two sons are giving me competition.
Jab tak unki heroine ke saath romance nahin karunga, chod ke jaunga nahin!"
In a December 2015 interview for his 80th birthday, Dharmendra admitted he felt jealous of SRK.
He said, "I wish I could become so young again that all heroines work with me and they remember the 60s, 70s, and 80s again with the return of Dharmendra."
He continued, "I feel very jealous when I see Shah Rukh.
Itni khoobsurat ladkiyon ke saath yeh romance kar raha hai! Toh main kyun nahin? I don't believe in the idea of age."
