Will Raid 2 cross the Rs. 100 cr mark just like Raid? Raj Kumar Gupta reveals, “We do keep track of collections, but word of mouth is paramount”; opens up on his Stree 2 CONNECTION and mentoring the man behind Bollywood’s BIGGEST hit

Punctuality is rarely observed when it comes to Bollywood events and interviews. Therefore, this writer was delightedly surprised when Raj Kumar Gupta, director of Raid 2, was ready before the time and wanted to tell everyone about his love work. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the well-known director talked about how Raid 2 from Raid 2 (2018), the casting process and more differ.

After the attack, you must have come across many stories related to the attack. How did you block this special idea for Raid 2? When we did the first part, the idea was to try our best. Luckily, it worked, but that doesn't mean we're going to continue anytime soon. But the love we gained from people has realised we should study these characters further. Many of us had actions for a sequel. Even Kumar Mangat Pathak Ji had problems. He accidentally told us about a particular character in 2019. When we met a few years later, I told him that he still remembered the ideas he shared. Even my wife (Myra Khan) could remember this idea. I said Kumar Ji that I was most impressed with all the ideas we discussed.

Writer Ritesh Shah was then on board, followed by other writers Jaidep Yadav and Karan Vias. We were four people cracking as they pressed the script. There is also the first part of the letter.

You have never repeated your main actor. But they made an exception with Raid 2. How was it like working with you again? It was an honor to work with Ajaiser again. As for Riteish, I was watching his work and I was working with him. Riteish was at the top of my head when I was looking for an actor for this character. I wanted to explore that with this negative character. Luckily, everything fell together. I was very pleased that he was ready and that he understood the part very well. Of course, he was a great actor and could easily get into all sorts of roles, such as odd, exciting, malignant.

The journalist asked about Vaani Kapoor, who played the next woman in the Ajay Devgns character, about the start of the Raid 2 trailer. Does Vani play the same character that Ileana Doculz started in the attack? Yes, it's the same character, but played by another actress.

How was Tamannaah Bhatia closed for Nasha's songs? She was the only option for singing. The producer and I realized there was room for singing. This was recommended for her name. Was that the first special dance number in your life? Yes, I've never done anything like that, but of course it went into the film. It didn't seem to be trying to instill the story.

Amay Patnaik's characters are based on real people. Do you remember how you persuaded him when you met him before making the first part? We tried to understand the nature of these civil servants, the challenges and unusual circumstances they faced. However, we were later inspired by a variety of other characters. That's why Amay Patnaik started out as someone inspired by real people. Later he became a fusion of many other personalities in real life. The same thing didn't happen to the person who killed Jessica (2011). Rani Mukerji's character represents the entire media.

How did the actual officers react when they saw RAID? Have you shared your feedback? They were pleased that there was a film-like expression of good work they do. They also said that the timelines explored in the film were extremely dangerous. When they went to rural areas they were often attacked. This was also shown in RAID. It wasn't out of imagination. It really happened in the past. We often hear from these people and even see them. However, they are not displayed on the screen. Therefore, they were pleased that the efforts they were making had given them recognition.

RAID exceeded Rs. 100 crawl mark. I took the box office and prayed that Raid 2 would enter Rs. 100 crawl club? When I published the Raid, I didn't think I would collect Rs. 100 crores as it was a new territory for us all. I was pleased that it was estimated in the way it came. People didn't see the process of carrying out the robbery. 70-80% of the films have been cancelled at home. This was unusual and new to viewers. I didn't know how the audience would react. Luckily it was loved and exceeded Rs again. 100 crawl mark. In Raid 2, we hope people appreciate it. We pursue collections, but word of mouth is very important to me.

RAID 2 is different from RAID. The first part was about the inner attack. This is outside! Filmed in Delhi, Lucknow and Rajasthan. I hope it gets the same love of people. Stree 2 Director Amar Kausik worked for you, but now he's in another league. How do you think about his superseth? Feels good (smile). He came as an intern at Aamir (2008). He then wasn't an assistant director with anyone from Jessica and Ganchakar. He made his debut in the short film, AABA. We produced it. It won many awards and became his show ring. He is a very hardworking and talented man. Now he has the films with the greatest influence in Hindi cinema. I am extremely pleased that the person I worked with has reached a dizzying height. You played an important role in caring for him...
I trusted him and put him on board. But he also had talent. He was hardworking too.

I'm also pleased with the other assistants who became directors. We launched Jaideep Yadav as the director of the pill. He is also a co-author of Raid 2. It is important that your assistants are talented. That's why we'll attract new filmmakers and drive the industry forward.

Do you have any plans to run Raid 3? Let's release Raid 2 first (smiles). For filmmakers, it is very important that your film receives timely publications, and public responses are positive. This film lasted two and a half years of my time. We wrote this film for 13 years, despite being based on a real story. This time we tried to bring in a lot of fictional elements.

But I'm sure you've finished some scripts...
Yes, I will. I accept the Raid 2's call. In fact, I know what I want to do, but then you know something. There are so many factors that need to be set up. Maybe you want to make a movie with a specific script, but in the end you'll do something different
