Tere Ishk Mein Review {3.0/5} & Review Rating
Star Cast: Dhanush, Kriti Sanon
Director: Aanand L Rai
Tere Ishk Mein Movie Review Synopsis:
TERE ISHK MEIN is about a man who is very angry and falls in love.
Shankar Gurukkal (Dhanush) is a leader of the college student union and is known for being rebellious and violent. Mukti Behniwal (Kriti Sanon) is a student in the same college. She presents her thesis, arguing that a violent man can change and become peaceful if treated properly. Shankar interrupts her presentation trying to chase another student. The professors (Chittaranjan Tripathy, Jaya Bhattacharya) use this as an example to say some men can never change. Mukti decides to try changing Shankar. If she succeeds, she gets her thesis approved. At first, Shankar doesn’t care, but later, he starts to like her. He even changes his behavior for her, and Mukti earns her PhD. Then, Shankar realizes how much Mukti loves him and decides to take control of his life. Seven years later, they meet again, and what happens next is the rest of the story.
Tere Ishk Mein Movie Review Synopsis:
The story follows Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav, who are in sync with the theme of the film — a man who is heartbroken and tries everything to get over it.
The screenplay is engaging in some parts but gets confusing later. The dialogues are a highlight, contributing to both the drama and humor in the film.
Aanand L Rai's direction is engaging.
He starts the film at a crucial moment and then takes the audience into a flashback. The story makes people curious about what went wrong between the characters. Some scenes are made to appeal to Dhanush’s South Indian fanbase and are fitting without feeling out of place. Aanand does well in creating drama. Some scenes like Mukti asking Shankar to be her subject, Mukti making a scared man slap him, and the chaos in the bar are really well done. The scene where Mukti arrives at Shankar’s house and the intermission point are also very intense. The second half starts well, with Shankar’s father Raghav (Prakash Raj) delivering some of the most memorable performances.
On the negative side, the second half of the film loses momentum.
Things happen too conveniently, and it doesn’t feel as engaging as the first half. The plot gets confusing, especially in the present-day parts. There are too many creative liberties, like Shankar being calm when he is injured and entering an IAS officer’s home when the place should have been well-guarded earlier. There’s also a scene of a depressed, pregnant woman being sent to a high-altitude place, which feels odd. The film also stretches too much during the ending, which was meant to be impactful but doesn’t truly deliver.
Tere Ishk Mein Movie Review Performances:
TERE ISHK MEIN depends on the strong performances of Dhanush and Kriti Sanon.
Dhanush’s portrayal of Shankar is powerful; he shows both anger and deep vulnerability. Kriti Sanon delivers a standout performance, handling a complex character and holding her own against strong actors. Prakash Raj makes a strong impression in a supporting role. Tota Roy Chowdhury, known for his role in ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI, is a surprise for Hindi viewers. Priyanshu Painyuli (Ved) gives good support. Chittaranjan Tripathy and Jaya Bhattacharya are decent in their roles. Paramvir Cheema (Jasjeet) and the actor playing Abir are okay. Viineet Kumar Siingh (V Shekhawat) does well in a special appearance. Ashish Verma is wasted, and it feels like his scenes were cut. Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub (Murari) is entertaining, but it's unclear if viewers will remember him from RAANJHANAA [2013].
Tere Ishk Mein movie music and other technical aspects:
A R Rahman's music adds to the film's impact.
However, the title track, which is most appreciated, is not fully played. Both versions of 'Jigar Thanda' are impressive. 'Chinnaware' stands out as a Tamil track in a Hindi movie. 'Ladki Jaisi' is memorable. Other well-composed songs like 'Awaara Angaara' and 'Usey Kehna' are included. The background score by A R Rahman fits the tone of the film well.
Tushar Kanti Ray's cinematography meets expectations.
Nitin Zihani Choudhary's production design is appealing but realistic. Rushi Sharma and Manoshi Nath's costumes for Kriti Sanon are stylish, while Kavya Sriram's costumes for Dhanush reflect his class and style. Rakshita Sharma's costumes for the rest of the cast are decent. Sunil Rodrigues' action sequences are not too intense or too violent. The VFX by RedChillies.VFX could have been better in some scenes. Hemal Kothari and Prakash Chandra Sahoo's editing could have been smoother.
Tere Ishk Mein Movie Review Conclusion:
Overall, TERE ISHK MEIN is an intense love story with dramatic moments and strong performances by Dhanush and Kriti Sanon.
However, the long running time and a weak second half reduce its impact. At the box office, it is expected to have a good opening.
