Red Chillies hits back at Sameer Wankhede’s plea against The Ba***ds of Bollywood; says his image was already subjected to scrutiny

Red Chillies Entertainment has officially responded to Sameer Wankhede’s defamation case against *The Ba***ds of Bollywood*, the Netflix show he claims was meant to damage his reputation. Wankhede, who was a senior officer with the Narcotics Control Bureau and was involved in the 2021 drug case linked to Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, filed the complaint saying the show portrayed a character that looked and acted like him.

In their reply, Red Chillies stated that the show is a Bollywood satire and that all the characters have exaggerated features to make the humor more effective.
They said the complaint was an effort to limit artistic freedom and called Wankhede’s position an example of being overly sensitive.

The response also noted that Wankhede’s image had already been widely discussed in the media and on social platforms before the show came out.
The filing pointed out that his role in the Aryan Khan case led to a lot of public criticism and mockery, as shown in newspapers, online discussions, and public reactions. Red Chillies argued that his reputation had already been affected before the show was released and that the lawsuit was an attempt to stop artistic expression.

The production company, represented by senior lawyers Neeraj Kishan Kaul and Shyel Trehan, asked the court to keep the show as it is.
They said removing the scene in question would break the story’s flow. They clarified that the show does not directly mention or refer to Wankhede, and the police character is simply portrayed as an “overzealous” officer — a typical character in dark comedies and satirical shows.

The case, which was heard by Justice Purushindra Kumar on Thursday, has been postponed until November 10 for more hearings.

*The Ba***ds of Bollywood*, available on Netflix, is known for its bold critique of celebrity culture, media hype, and the moral confusion in the film industry.
These themes have sparked ongoing discussions about the difference between satire and defamation.
